Three years ago we ran our first 6 Week Challenge with little idea of what we could do for attendees in such a short period of time. We really looked at the challenge as a jump start to get people headed down the right path, and for everyone who attended it was exactly that… and much more!!
Today, after running several challenges every year, we go into each one now with high expectations, because we’ve seen an endless number of body transformations, literally tons of weight loss stories, and a handful of changes that are nothing short of amazing. All in just 6 short weeks. And for most, that’s just the start!!
So what makes a 6 week challenge so powerful?? Let’s take a look at the 5 components of our 6 week challenge and what makes it so effective and why you should start now to make the changes you want to see in your life.
#1: Accountability & Community
Accountability is crucial for success in any fitness program. Anyone who is successfully achieves their fitness goals likely has some sort of accountability built into their program. All successful athletes, bodybuilders, etc… have teams or partners they train with on a regular basis. Nobody goes at it alone.
Here you’ll find accountability in several forms, first and foremost in a community of like minded people. We have coaches who teach every class. They are the first line of accountability. Then we have the other members of the challenge who are there to be your accountability partners. Finally we have previous challenge attendees and gym members who are pulling for you and are always a good source of extra encouragement.
It doesn’t end there, we also include several other things we do throughout each challenge to keep people engaged and accountable.
#2: Positive Attitude & Motivation
We only choose people who are Motivated and have a Positive Attitude to be in our challenges. Why?? Because those are the people we want to be around.
When you’re in a group of Positive and Motivated people it’s hard to feel anything but Positive and Motivated. This stuff is highly contagious and we want it to spread.
Not only is the environment more enjoyable to work out in it’s also far more effective in helping people reach their goals. We realize that everyone has a bad day from time to time and may not feel like doing the work they have to do that day but the right group of people and the right environment can change that within moments of entering a room.
#3: Nutrition & Meal Planning
“You can’t out-train a crappy diet.”
First of all, diet here simply means “all the food you’re eating on a daily basis.”
So what this quote is saying is no matter how often or how hard you train, if you constantly eat garbage, you won’t fully get the results you’re looking for.
I say it regularly, if someone put a gun to my head and made me choose between working out or eating right to help people get fit, I’d choose eating right every time. What you eat is so important, don’t neglect it.
“If you fail to prepare, you’re preparing to fail.”
I talk about this constantly in reference to meal planning and food preparation. If you aren’t preparing you food for several days to a week in advance you’re preparing to fail. And by fail I mean end up making bad choices of what you eat, how often you eat, your portion sizes, and snacking, all of which can quickly get out of control and destroy all the hard work you’ve put in during the weeks or months prior.
We teach a very simple, easy to follow system. We show you how to plan your meals and prepare your food for several days to a week at a time. This ensures you always have good food choices available so when life throws you a curveball – and it occasionally does – you don’t find yourself going through the nearest drive through.
#4: Expert Coaching & Workout Program
We’ve asked people what they like most about workout out in this type of setting and the number one answer is they don’t have to think about anything prior to coming in or when they’re here. The workout is designed for them and they are guided through every step of the hour class by an experienced coach who is there specifically to help them.
All of our classes are led by Expert Coaches who are experienced and knowledgeable in everything we teach. Our coaches lead every class through a warmup that goes from general to more specific based on what we’re doing in class that day. We then train all the specific movements that we’ll use in the workout. This way everyone is on the same page. After that the coach guides the class through the workout itself.
Each workout is designed in a way that allows it to be adapted to anyone in class. Not everyone is at the same ability or fitness level but because of the way we build and scale our workouts we have options that allow us to adjust to each individual, this way everyone gets the workout that is best for them.
#5: Attainable Goals
Finally, we set attainable goals for each individual. Goals are important, they give people something to shoot for. Without them we don’t know where we’re headed.
If we make them too hard, we risk failing to achieve them, getting discouraged, and quitting along the way. On the other hand, with a little hard work and perseverance we achieve our attainable goal, celebrate the win, stay motivated, and set new attainable goals moving toward a better and better life.
So those are the 5 things that make challenges so successful in helping people transform their lives. If you have any opportunity to join a challenge with us or with someone else, my suggestion is do it!!
Start now. The sooner you do the sooner you will start building better and healthier habits. How you do one thing in life is how you do everything. Make these changes and watch healthy habits spread to other areas of your life and transform you in ways you may not every have imagined.
I’ll end an the inspiring wisdom of an old Chinese proverb. “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”
The best time to take control of your health and fitness has already passed. Don’t let the next opportunity pass you by.
