Shane has been actively training and involved in fitness now for more than 20 years. He was first introduced to CrossFit over 10 years ago while going through the US Army Special Forces Qualification Course (Q Course) where upon completion he earned the prestigious Green Beret. His experience with CrossFit didn’t end there, he continued to train himself and began to train others. Eventually he opened a gym that become quite successful, made an exit and opened another.
Shane is by far one of the most experienced crossfitters West MI. While other are paddling to catch the wave, he has be riding on the leading edge of this wave for more than a decade. Having this perspective has allowed him to watch the world of fitness and especially CrossFit change over the years.
Shane is passionate about fitness, the source of that passion has changed several times over the years but the level of passion has never changed. At first the passion came from a desire to not be a scrawny 15 year old. That passion later changed to the need for functional fitness and the need to stay alive in dangerous combat zones around the world. Today his passion for fitness is more about health, general fitness, and longevity. He will often say, “I want to be as fit and healthy in my mid-fifties as I am in my mid-thirties.” Having had his first child in 2014 has also changed his perspective on fitness. It’s no longer important to be the biggest badass in the room, the focus now is on being capable and healthy to enjoy life with his children in 10 and 20 years.
Shane’s contribution to your fitness these days may come from training with him in a group or one-on-one setting but will more likely come from somewhat more indirect source. These days Shane spends more of his time focusing on the bigger picture issues of the community like training coaches, organization and direction of the business, evaluating new opportunities, and of course work toward his goal of being healthy and fit in his fifties.
